Background: Calliope is 7.5 years old and has been raised with us since she was just 8 weeks old. Calliope has belonged to our son her entire life and has only known what spoiled feels like. She sleeps in bed, loves food, loves her family, loves dogs, loves everything life has to offer. She is a large boned Chihuahua with a lot of fur. She is a black and tan long coat. Calliope retired from our program several years ago and has remained as my son's pet. Unfortunately, our son is moving out and is unable to take all of his dogs with him and we can't keep her either. This is very sad for us, but we have to do what's best for Calliope. We are looking for a family who is willing to adopt an older, retired adult female. She is up to date on Distemper/Parvo and Rabies. She has had several dental cleanings and routine Vet care. She is microchipped. Calliope has had a couple meet and greets previously and isn't that friendly to strangers. We are looking for an individual who will give Calliope space and patience to acclimate to a new environment. Her world is changing and this will be a hard transistion on her. 

She knows her name pretty well, but it can be changed if necessary. She does well with both men and women. 

Calliope is coming from a breeding environment so will need to be potty trained in a new environment. At this time she is used to indoor potty pads and a dog door to use her yard. Like every animal we post for rehoming, we hope you would understand that they will have accidents initially and will need patience!  Calliope does well in the car, new people and with our vet staff.  She is dog door trained and crate trained. She is not leash trained, but can be trained easily. We have rehomed a lot of dogs over the years and they all seem to mesh into a new environment fairly well with time and patience. She is a very loving companion and would be an ideal pet for someone who needs a constant friend nearby. Please consider Calliope for your home and family.
